Competitive
EVO Championship Series 2011 dates announced
0EVO has finally been announced and I have sent in my vacation time request for it. It’s in Las Vegas of, July 29th-31st. I’m probably going to be staying a few extra days since I’ve been wanting to go to Vegas for a while now.
I’m going to have to start focusing more on SF4 now that I’m actually committing to going. Probably going to focus on Chun Li as I still can’t make Makoto work consistently.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 release date; Feb 15, 2011
0Over on the Capcom Unity website they announced the release for Marvel vs. Capcom 3: The Fate of Two Worlds as February 15th, 2011.
Starcraft II multiplayer progress
1I’ve been playing Starcraft 2 since release as much as I can in between other games and I’ve basically been able to reach the top 5 of my Platinum division and have been there ever since. It seems that Blizzard’s matchmaking more less is accurate since I float around a 50% win/loss ratio.
It’s been quite a struggle to get out of Platinum. My success against “favored” opponents usually isn’t too good which is when I assume Battle.net is trying me out against Diamond level players. The biggest issues I’ve been having is timing on drove vs. army production since I play Zerg. Against Diamond level players I get punished pretty heavily by over droning or vise versa. Got to keep working on it.

IdrA wins MLG DC Starcraft 2 tournament
0IdrA claims the win at MLG this week against SelecT. Playing his normal macro style, was able to defend the harass to take home the $2,500 top place prize pool.
Street Fighter 4 and Arcade Stick button
0I haven’t talked much about Super Street Fighter 4 lately. I’m still playing it here and there but have been spending most of my competitive energy on Starcraft II lately.
One thing that was pretty annoying though is my Super Street Fighter IV Tournament Edition arcade stick had a button die. The thing was only a few months old even. I ended up just ordering a replacement from Lizard Lick and put it in myself. I went ahead and put in the octo gate also that I originally ordered when I got it but never got around to putting in. That took a little get used to again but I do think I still prefer it to the square gate.
Awesome video of EVO 2010
0Seen this today and had to post it. Makes me want to go even more next year.
Yoshinori Ono to announce new Capcom game at Comic-Con
0Mr. Ono mentioned that he had a big announcement “bigger than SSF4″ at EVO this year and said that he would be making the announcement at Comic-Con in a few weeks. The higher ups at Capcom wouldn’t let him spill the beans at EVO.
Yoshinori Ono dropped a hint on his official Twitter account with this picture though:
This has stirred up quite a few theories as to what game it could possibly be. Seems to have a 360, PS3 and PC keyboard all placed in the picture and that’s obviously Ryu’s face. Everything from Street Fighter vs. Tekken, Darkstalkers, Capcom vs. SNK3, Street Fighter 5 or maybe just a DLC or SSF4 for PC being announced. No one is quite sure. Capcom seems to love generated hype though and seems to be doing a good job of it.
According to what he said about it at EVO it’s due out in about a year which will put it very close to their other huge release, Marvel vs Capcom 3 and seems too early for a full blown Street Fighter 5. I guess we’ll find out at Comic-Con!
Daigo Umehara remains EVO champion 2010
0
Definitely feeling the decision staying up till 1:30 in the morning EST to watch the EVO finals. After the surprise elimination of Justin Wong on Saturday, there was a new level of hype surrounding the 2010 EVO finals. The action didn’t disapoint either. Between the excellent matches and skill shown and the new players on the scene this year, it’s no wonder the Evolution tourmanent is the pinnacle of fighting game competition.
New players making a big splash this year was Gamerbee (Adon) and Vangief (Zangief) both of which are subsequently the players that eliminated J Wong from the top 8 this year. After a grueling set of matches between the top 8, Daigo “the Beast” Umehara stands as the reigning champion of EVO 2010 against Ricky Ortiz who came in second place.
Justin Wong eliminated from EVO 2010 top 8
0Got home late last night but got to catch the last hour or so of the EVO 2010 semi-finals on livestream. Saw the loss of Justin Wong to a pad Zangief player and then an Adon player in loser’s bracket to get thrown out of the tournament. Was pretty shocking but it shows that the “standard” tier lists aren’t all that matters. While most tournament players stick to the staple characters and their comfort zone, there are some new players this year representing another side of Super Street Fighter 4 and I hope that let’s people know that if you put the time in with a character and bring some confidence you can really go far without following the popular trends. Of course this may just be wishful thinking and in reality, and there will be a million new Adon players on Live tomorrow. Guess we’ll see.
